Perfume - Wonderful things in the mail today!

I got this avesome collection of samples in the mail today! They are a care package from (the awesomely generous, kind, my hero) Su (IOU)! I was in heaven as I explored this lot, a package of perfume full of suprises is such a rush!! As of right now I have six different perfumes on various places on my hands and arms... I stink! ;D And there are still so many more to try on!! I already know that I adore Miskatonic University, it is going on my top ten list! I have also tried on the arabian scents and they are all really high quality and gorgeous. Cake or Death is on one of my hands and it is really really strong on me, with a monster sillage and longevity, but thankfully very lovely! Su reviews most of these herehere and here. But it seems we have quite different skin chemistries as I smell very different things in these than she does.

So, this has been an awesome day and this lot of samples holds much more for me to try on tomorrow, and the day after that, and the rest of the week really!! Thanks Su for brightening my day, week and month!

I was just reading Dee's blog and your comment made me LOL. You said something like, "Oh, the florals, the horror!"

    3. It is Colin! I´ll definitely review it for you when I´ve tried it on!

Oh yes, florals are a horror! I just generally hate them, especially if they are synthetic, which they normally are...

    4. Oh that would be awesome! I don't blame you. Even though I'm a perfume noob, I can tell when there are synthetic notes used!

I wanted to let you know that I bought the first GoT book yesterday! I was at the store and had to return pants that didn't fit, so I bought it with the credit I got from the store! I just thought I'd let you know because you said it was in your top 10 favorite series!

    7. Great! For me it didn´t stick the first time around, when I was about 16, but I´m blaiming that on the crappy swedish translation I was reading then... I rather read English than translations nowadays!

  4. I love that there is a perfume called Miskatonic University! What does it smell like? Someone thought I lived in America because my job is set to Miskatonic University, Arkham Massachusets :P

    1. Lol! I´m not much of a Lovecraft fan, but even I know that Arkham is part of his world!

Misatonic University is supposed to smell of irish coffee, dusty old books and polished oakwood if I remember correctly. On my skin it is a seamless blend of coffee and oakwood without much dust... ;)

  5. Oh, that Su - she's a star, isn't she? She sent me a big pack of smells the other day too. This looks like a super fun haul t play with. What are the ones in the little bottles with the gold lids?

    1. Yep! Definitely a star!! The gold lid bottles are some mysterious Arabian perfume oils! Quite a lot of oud in a coule of them! I love oud!

    1. It is isn´t it! All the scents I have tried so far have been lovely and a couple new favorites have been found! Yeah, I want a bottle of Miskatonic University too, but I will not order from BPAL until I have a few full sizes on my wish list..

  7. I need some perfume advice, everything I have got recently I am dissatisfied with. I know nothing about scents so I go for those I know and get plain stuff. I want something that evokes something dark and sensual, like blood plums and pomegranates at midnight. Rich and dark. Not necesscarily the actual fruit smell, just the mood. I don;t like citrus, either, it attacks my allergies. Do you have any advice?

    1. Well, the one scent that come to think of is Acid Reign by Steam Bath Factory, it is copal, coffee, frutiy fig, chocolate and blackcurrant liqueur. On me that one is very dark and rich, at the same time fruity, smoky and sensual. That is the only one that I have tried that fits... There is also Bordello by BPAL, Su sent me an empty vial of that, just to sniff. It has notes of plum, berries, almond and wine, but I don´t know how it behaves on skin, if it is dark at all. These are the ones I can think of right now... I´m not a big fan of fruits, but plum is an exception, as is fig, so I might have some dark and sensual fruit scents in my notebook. I´ll check later.

Of course there are also dark and sensual scents without fruit in them... Right now I´m wearing Vixen by BPAL. It has notes of orange blossom, ginger and patchouli, but on me it smells like honey, lavender and patchouli. Really gorgeously dark and sensual, but no fruit...

    2. I found a couple scents at Alkemia that might interest you, Blackberry Noir and Persephone Pomegranate... I haven´t tried either of them, but I have heard good things about Blackberry Noir at least and they both seem to have a dark air about them! My experience with Alkmeia in general is very positive, all the scents I have sampled were so well made!
