Outfit - Basic black semi-steampunk!

The last Tuesday of every month I meet up with a gang of geeks at a student pub. These guys (yes, mostly guys) are originally members of a fantasy community, but that community is mostly dead, and these meet-ups have nothing to do with fantasy nowadays. These guys also share a passion for beer, and they have infected me with it. I´m not a geek yet, but I have definitely aquired a taste for strong Belgian beers, especially Trappist beers! (Though a new favorite, that I tried this Tuesday, is a Dutch beer, Bommen & Granaten by Brouwerij De Molen! It instantly replaced the La Trappe Quadruple that has been my favorite for a while.) I used to hate beer. I still hate most beer but I now know that beer can be so many things, some awesome, some awful... Beer is rather like perfume actually!

Anyway, geekery aside, I wore this outfit! Mostly previously featured staples from my wardrobe. I don´t think I have raved about these fake leather pants though! They fit like they were painted on, but are still comfortable! I feel kind of sexy when I wear them! The black shirt is the only clothing item I found during the weekend's Beyond Retro raid. It is a rather simple black shirt but beautifully pleated. And the sleeves are    huge, just like I want them. The knee high boots are also a new addition to my wardrobe. I bought them this autumn, when I realised that last winter's boots are falling to pieces... I loved those boots so it was rather sad. These boots were the best I could find for less than 50€, which was my budget at the time.  I would have a better picture of them, but my camera battery died... Suffice to say thay have a two inch heel, a decorative sipper down the outside and a couple of decorative buttons. I wanted them as simple as possible and they just don´t make any nice plain boots anymore, they all have all kinds of frills and buckles and whatnot... The necklace is one I have made myself from a key that I bought cheaply at a flea market.

This look is very me as some of you might note. I have made the vest and the large sleeves my trademark... and the hat of course. I feel very comfortable in this kind of semi-steampunk everyday outfit! What kind of outfits do you feel most comfortable in? What are your trademarks? (Any beer geeks out there?)

Price tag: about 80€, excluding the hat.

Wish list: same old, same old!

P.S. Maybe I should move my Egon Schiele prints around a bit so I don´t have that (admittedly nice-looking) butt in every outfit picture... Just a thought.

  1. I agree, the outfit is very you and fabulously so! I love how the lower part of your top has a little flare :)
It is amazing that you are developing a taste for beer. I don't mind beer but i don't particularly like it. And for me beer is beer, can't tell one from another!

    1. Yeah, the pleating gives the shirt a bit of a flare. I like that... It is in the details!

I though the same before, that beer is beer... But that was just because I had tasted only one type of beer, the most common, pale lager! And I can´t tell one pale lager from another... they all suck! I promise you that you could never mistake Bommen & Granaten for a random pale lager! It is so sweet and heavy with a wonderful red amber color... It teastes like the nectar of the gods but has an alcohol content of 15% that I can´t taste at all! Dangerous stuff!

  2. I love this outfit! Those pants are freaking amazing- I love them on you! You are just too cute!

I work with a girl who is in a geek group, but I don't want to join because there's a mandatory attendance for at least a couple times a month. And I don't want to feel obligated to do something that should otherwise be fun.

Anyway, I don't drink anymore, but I was never a beer girl. It filled me up way too much and I didn't like the taste. I could see where different kinds of beer could be tasty, though! My university had a beer tasting class. They also had a wine tasting class, which I took. I should have taken the beer one too!

    1. Thank you! <3

Well, we have no mandatory attendance, but you do get a bite of friendly gibes if you don´t feel like coming... :)

I like strong beer, preferably 10% or more, just because it is so filling... But still, one or two beers in a night is my limit... I have learned to like beer, but I still hate wine... just the smell of the stuff makes me want to puke... The only wine I have ever liked was an insanely expensive one (about $100 for a small glass) that I got a small taste of at another geeky getogether (happy alcoholics the lot of them). When I party I´m an absinthe kind of gal! There´s just something about drinking that green stuff, although it does taste vile most of the time! ;)

    2. No mandatory attendance is a good thing! I have to mandatorily attend work, I don't want to mandatorily attend fun! ;D though I am tempted to, as they have a book club that I want to join. I've always wanted to be in a book club!

Absinthe is such a fun drink! I've bought a couple bottles in the past. My favorite was Mansinthe because of its creator and the bottle itself, as trivial as it may sound. I kept the bottle and left it in my kitchen as a decoration.

    3. I like the idea of book clubs, but I don´t know if I´d want to be part of one... I read very fast and devout much time to reading, but I wouldn´t want to be in a book club where everyone reads the same books. I don´t think I could find a book club where everyone had the same literary taste as I do and I absolutely refuse to compromise when it comes to reading... But I do think I´d enjoy a book club where everyone just meet to discuss the random books they have read recently!

Most absinthe bottles are so pretty to look at! In my commune we have a couple that we use as candle holders!

  3. First thought: That outfit is awesome!
Second thought: There's a naked person on your wall!
I'm not a big drinker and really, reallly don't like beer. But I can see how it's like wine and perfume in that one can appreciate all the varities and nuances. I really only like super sweet wines. I like to get plum wine at my favorite Thai place and there's another wine called Frost Bitten Ice Riesling that is also very yummy, but I've only found it in one restaurant 3 hours from where we live :( I won't talk any more about drinkies because I'd quite embarrass myself with my lack of know-how!

Yep, there is a naked person on the wall, her butt has been in every outfit post recently! ;P
I´m a n00b when it comes to alcohol... I mostly just know what I like and what I hate... Since hanging around with the geeks I have gained some knowledge of beer, through osmosis mostly! I regularly embarrass myself in that company, they know alcoholic drinks like I know my own wardrobe! O_o

    2. LOL, so there is! Why have I never noticed this before? I guess you could take this as a compliment because the outfits held my attention better than a naked butt :)

  4. I love the outfit! You look great with the top hat and the slim fitting waistcoat!

I once had a pair of pleather pants that fitted pretty well. I find it difficult to find any pants that fit me. I just don't fit pants at all. Good thing I love skirts!

I often take my pictures under one of my Norman Lindsay prints. All the women in that are naked :P

    1. Thank you Laura!

I used to have a lot of trouble finding fitting pants... I don´t know when that changed, a change in both general fashion and my own taste perhaps... I hate jeans though, I stay far away from those!
